Social change projects
At Eskag, conservation of the health of earth goes together with protection the health of its population. Just as we attempt to meet patient needs, we work to be a leader in total environmental performance management. In 2012, we continued to demonstrate our commitment to achieving environmental results in numerous areas:
In 2012-2013, we introduced a data-collection system at 25 sites in India that tracked key indicators (KIs) related to solvents, energy, water, wastewater, air emissions and waste. In 2013, we plan to build on our environmental KIs, improve the accessibility of data for site managers and encourage communication of our performance internally and externally.
We vigorously look for to decrease energy consumption and connected GHG emissions across our reach. Initiatives incorporated switching to well-organized and cleaner burning natural gas, installing new gas turbines and multi-evaporators, reconstructing high voltage distribution networks, upgrading lighting and HVAC systems and utilizing waste heat.
We labor to decrease water consumption at our facilities through cautious management of manufacturing processes and by recycling water wherever feasible. In 2012-2013, we employed 2 water-savings projects at a range of sites. Measures included installation of recirculation pumps and upgrades to monitoring systems.
Effective waste management is significant to our manufacturing processes and our environmental responsibility labors. During 2012-2013, we conducted 10 projects to encourage non-hazardous waste reduction, treatment and recycling. We recycled nearly 50 percent of our non-hazardous waste.
In 2012-2013, we upgraded and installed more efficient condensers, scrubbers and absorption units at our units to advance air treatment beyond what local regulations demanded. In 2013, we map to create standard air emissions metrics for all operations, taking into account the different monitoring thresholds at our sites.
